The Study of Spiritual Science and the Spiritual Path

What is spiritual science? According to the Vesica Institute (www.vesica.org) it is the study of deep esoteric knowledge and practices of Ancient Traditions. As a society, we have been taught to fear the unknown, or anything associated with the word ‘occult’. If we want to know what lies beyond the veil of the unknown, the unseen, the world beyond our physical senses, we must learn the terminology, we must practice the methods given to us from our predecessors who have walked the path and provided us with the tools and guidance as we begin to navigate our own path.

You can think of it like learning a new sport. You need to learn the layout of the land. You wouldn’t decide to play soccer and just hop on a team without knowing the rules, the terminology, the methods for succeeding in the game. You would spend time learning the rules, practicing the plays, becoming comfortable with the ball so you can navigate the soccer field with grace and ease. It is the same with spiritual practice. You must first have the desire to learn. Then you must spend the time working toward achieving a high level of comfort navigating your energy centers and exploring higher levels of awareness.

Why study spiritual science? We are here on this beautiful planet to awaken to our divine nature, to expand our consciousness and to become aware of the true nature of reality. The many works of Rudolph Steiner, a Master on the path has provided us with a large volume of knowledge to help us navigate our own path into the nature of Spirit.

Many people will cast all awareness aside for the belief that it is not possible to see into the unseen worlds. RS teaches that if you want to learn to see beyond the veil, you must begin to practice certain activities that will strengthen your innate abilities to do just that.

There are many sources of information out there, from Tibetan Buddhism, Esoteric Christianity, Rosicrucian teachings. Some of my favorite resources are: Dr. Robert Gilbert at
www.Vesica.org, Rudolf Steiner, Daskalos (Greek healer Stylianos Atteshlis).

Once you start your path, you will be guided to the resources that best suit your needs at your current level of learning. That has been my path over the last 25 plus years. I find the more I learn, the more I realize how much more there is to learn. This is a life long journey.

Each person on this Earthly incarnation has their own Soul lessons and personal growth path. Not everyone is at the same level of personal or spiritual development. That is why it feels so difficult to choose the spiritual path, when so many others are just living their lives and seem not to be the least bit interested spiritual development. In this world of social norms and everyone seemingly needing to be accepted by their peers, family, employers, and communities, it is difficult, to say the least, to follow the path of spiritual awareness.

It’s okay. You can begin your spiritual development quietly, without the critical eye of those around you. Schedule time to meditate and read spiritual books. Find a spiritual teacher or energy healer you feel comfortable with and participate in energy healing sessions, learn what it means to work with energy healing and the various modalities which are available to you out there.
You don’t have to become a healer or open a healing business, but these activities will enrich your spiritual development, accelerate your learning and forge connections to higher beings more than you would imagine.

It takes time to gain your footing on this path. Participating in various spiritual groups, meditation groups and energy healing classes helps you to not only to receive much needed healing, but to learn the ropes of spiritual development and continue to expand your awareness.

Feel like you aren’t getting anywhere on your path of awakening? Putting in lots of meditation time and still find yourself reacting to the day’s stresses and those in your environment in less than enlightened ways? Hitting inner road blocks like never before? It’s okay. It happens. We are awakening to a new way of being. Our old habits and patterns aren’t so easy to shake. It takes time, effort, discipline, and patience. Patience with others, and most importantly with ourselves. Our old ways of thinking and behaving won’t leave us overnight, just because we have awakened to our spiritual selves and are aware that we are much more than we ever thought we were. We are still human beings with thoughts, feelings, inner wounds and habitual behaviors. Now that we are aware, we are responsible for taking care of ourselves on a much deeper level. Which means we must face our inner selves with courage and determination to heal and reach our full potential, and allow ourselves the time and space to do so. I remember when I first started attending classes and group meditations. I just knew, every meditation, every next new class, I was going to be opened up and my spiritual gifts would suddenly appear and I would finally arrive! Of course, I began to catch on with each new meditation, or new class, that I still had some inner work to do before my gifts would decide to show up. I finally began to realize, it’s a process, not an event! It’s the journey that counts, not the destination. I still had loads of inner work to do. In addition to the wounds I had yet to heal from years of emotional trauma, as I was slowly beginning my healing journey, I suddenly found myself dealing with the grief of the loss of my mother and my marriage. Two major life changes in almost as many years. Yes, I had work to do. Of course, healing and awakening weren’t going to happen immediately, though in the beginning I naively thought they would. Or, maybe I just wished they would, so the hurt would stop. Walking the awakening path opens doors to awareness in unexpected ways. We begin to see ourselves, perhaps for the first time. Self-awareness is the path to true healing and awakening. We are no good to others if we don’t first take care of ourselves. If we aren’t working on our inner work, our spiritual development will not progress as rapidly as we would like. To be clear enough to connect to higher worlds, we must do the inner work to shed all of the heaviness from our being. I know all too well that facing our inner demons is a very scary prospect. Who knows what we will find lurking in the recesses of our inner being? Yet, we can’t let that stop us from doing our work. Living in that fear is self-defeating and stops us in our tracks. It keeps us in our lower patterns and from exploring our inner connections to the worlds of Spirit and Higher Consciousness. The journey requires us to have the courage to face our inner wounds, so we can heal and move forward with clarity and inner peace.
